Back and Muscle Pain and the Alexander Technique

Something in the top

Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Chiropractic & Acupunture Treatments

Osteopathy, Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, Acupuncture and many other methods are sought for the treatment of back pain and physical pain, so where does Alexander Technique fit in with these treatments?

Those with chronic back pain have an array of treatments available to them, the obvious being physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Chiropractic treatment or perhaps Acupuncture. So when these and other methods can provide relief, why or when would one choose to see a teacher of the Alexander Technique?

Certainly in acute cases one is most likely to seek the advice of a physiotherapist, Osteopath or Chiropractor as this is most likely to be the most appropriate. However If there is something that 'you are doing' that is causing your problem, then the Alexander Technique is most definitely an invaluable technique to consider. Whilst the above methods may all be successful in easing pain, if you are not using your body as it is designed then difficulties may continue. The Alexander Technique will give you the tools in order that you can improve your use, which in turn will lead to an improved overall functioning of the entire system. The technique is not a treatment but an educational and mindful approach to movement that will lead to an improved functioning.

The difficulty is that most people are not aware of poor use, and even when they are, very rarely do they realize to what extent . As Alexander himself discovered, the postural habits that we are carrying with us on a daily basis are so ingrained that they 'feel' right to us, and so we are the last ones to realize when we are doing something harmful to ourselves.

People do not decide their futures. They decide their habits and their habits decide their future F M Alexander
