When we are born, we have an inbuilt instinctive postural reflex and an ability to be able to support ourselves effortlessly. (PICTURE OF CHILD/BABY) We can see this simply by watching and small child that is sitting just as nature intended. Unfortunately once they begin school, and often beforehand many harmful habits begin to appear. Over time these muscular skeletal habits of tension become ingrained and by the time we reach adulthood, many of these harmful habits have come to feel normal to us and as a result we can be unaware of them. Sadly, these harmful unconscious habits can result in many of today's physical and emotional difficulties.
It is not easy to change harmful patterns of use, but the Alexander Technique can give us the necessary tools to allow us to rediscover how we are designed by nature to move. You will experience a new freedom of movement and will feel more in control.
Working closely with a teacher, the Alexander Technique is a gentle yet powerful educational approach which will provide you with the understanding needed to be able change the habits that cause excessive strain on muscles and joints. The mind and body begin to work together more freely as you explore the way in which we function, our reaction to stimuli and the nature of our unconscious behaviour. The skills you learn within lessons can be applied to any activity and daily life.
